The ever-disappearing herbalist in Paris is alive and well, you just have to know where to go. A new European directive limiting the sale of herbal products, the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive, came into effect on April 30, 2011. About fifteen herbalists remain in the city.

The following boutiques aim to please with their wide variety of homeopathic remedies, teas, syrups, and essential oils:

If you’re wanting to explore early medicinal herbal gardens, check out the first one planted in Paris by Louis XII’s physician in 1635: Jardin des Plantes, 57 Rue Cuvier, 75005. Entrée gratuite. If you’re taking the kids be sure to visit the adjoining zoo (small fee, big payoff). To your health, sante!
