Hunger pangs while cashmere shopping at Ralph Lauren’s new St. Germain store? Now you can take a break at his in-house restaurant for the uber-rich. The decor has that patio feel, that back in the USA moment and so does the menu. Besides the perfectly seared juicy hamburger: le club, $24; cobb salad, $28; lobster salad, $35. Luxe presentation, beautiful servers with a French twist.

Save room for America’s favorite desserts: brownies and vanilla ice cream, new york cheese cake, five layer chocolate cake, carrot cake, key lime pie all priced at just $14.

If you’re feeling it’s a tad overbudget and want something a little on the fast-food gourmet side a few metro stops away, try the Charolais/chevre burger at McDonald’s for 2 euros with a charming view of the Austerlitz train station. Follow it up with a 2 euro strawberry frappe. I noticed on the website they’re featuring other petite Charolais options: melted Emmental and sauce Bearnaise, Charolais Cantal sauce au poivre, Charolais au sauce bleu fondu. I’m loving’ it!

Something new on the menu here is sure to please those looking for a quick satiating meal a la McDonald’s. It’s the Casse-Croute (break-bread) and it comes with a medium soft drink for just four and a half euros. You’ve got three choices:

mcdonaldscassecroute

The Oriental is a sandwich consisting of a small baguette baked on stone, 2 potato pancakes, 2 specialty beef patties and Eastern seasoned sauce.

Chicken-Pepper is a sandwich consisting of a small baguette baked on stone, 2 potato pancakes, 2 crispy chicken patties and pepper sauce.

Mixte is a small baguette baked on stone, 2 potato patties, 2 slices of ham, 2 slices of Emmental cheese and cheese sauce.

How can you go wrong? Kind of a Subway sandwiche a la francaise. Only you can be the judge. To locate the McDonald’s closest to your apartment or hotel click here. This is not an advertisement, the suggestion is my own.

Paris fast food: the crepe.

A definite bang for the buck (euro), crepes are filling, sweet or savory, fresh, hot, for people on the go. My favorite breakfast on the run.<br

The menu: SUCREE, 2 to 3 euros: beurre et sucre, confiture, noix de coco rapee, citron, banane, creme de marron, cannelle, grand marnier, nutella, chocolat noir or….SALEES, 2 to 4 euros: beurre et sel, jambon, fromage, fromage oeuf, fromage poulet or…..invent your own.

Crepes are traditionally celebrated every February 2, La Chandeleur, originally Virgin Mary’s Blessing Day. Some say it was believed to be for the return of the light (winter is almost over, spring is nearing). Others believed if you could catch the crepe with a frying pan after tossing it in the air with your right hand and holding a gold coin in your left hand, you would become rich that year. You choose what you’d like to believe.
