“Aside from the hubbub of normal commerce, the procession of street workers on Rue St. Denis are of two types: men in overalls with hand-trucks transporting bolts of fabric, and “ladies of the night,” who are spaced evenly in broad daylight along the sidewalk and tarted-up like Christmas trees. Parisians seem to take little note of either (no photos without permission). You might want to continue down Rue St. Denis a little before doubling back to slightly shabby Passage du Caire. Crowds of nude mannequins and all sorts of shelving and racks are behind the windows of this long passage, which supplies retail stores.” – from the pages of the No Worries Paris walking guide.
