If you’re intimidated by shopping at one of the couturier houses or don’t feel comfortable speaking French, your worrying is over. Head straight for Galeries Lafayette at no. 40 or Au Printemps, no. 64 for 20 floors of luxurious brands. Both department store buildings date from the 1890’s and offer discounts to foreign shoppers. Check in at their “Welcome Desks” and present your passport for a voucher. Lafayette features a fashion show every Friday at 3 p.m., a large rooftop terrace, cafeteria and gourmet grocery. Metro stops: Chaussée d’Antin, Opéra, or Trinité. They open at 9:30 a.m.
